Twist Breastfeeding Essentials Kit Review by Lindsay Marzouq
As a mom of two young kids—ages 2 1/2 and 10 months, a grad student, and busy kindergarten teacher, I’m always looking for ways to save time. Since my daughter was born and I returned to work after a short 6-week maternity leave, we have had lots of troubles getting her to take a bottle. We tried several types, and although she was opposed to every brand we tried, I continued to pump at work in order to keep my milk supply up. Fast forward nine months, and I fell in love with the Kiinde Twist system…and my daughter did too!
I received a Kiinde Twist Breastfeeding Essentials Kit to review, and I was excited right from the start. The kit comes with the twist storage pouches, adapters for all major breast pumps, a Squeeze Natural Feeding Bottle, three nipples in varying speeds (slow, medium, and fast), a nipple brush, and as a bonus I received a Foodii gift pack—perfect for this baby food making mamma!
The kit seemed very straightforward when I received it, and I loved that the adapters had labels right on the plastic that tell you which pump they work with! This took all of the guesswork about matching up my pump. Fastening the storage pouches to my pump was just as easy as connecting the traditional bottles too.
When I pumped, I was nervous that there may be leaking, or that the bags would not accurately measure how much milk I pumped, but none of that happened! This system really simplified pumping. Once I returned home from work, I was thrilled that I could simply put the pouches right into the freezer for storage! The bags lay flat nicely, and took up very little space in our freezer.
Like I mentioned before, my daughter would not take bottles, no matter how hard we tried! When I explored the Kiinde Twist bottles, I noticed that the nipples resemble a more “natural” shape, and thought we might as well give them a try with the little Miss! My sister watches my children during the day, and she was happy to report that she gobbled the bottle right up! The bottles remind me of a “drop-in” type bottle, with a frame and a bag. I found these pretty easy to put together, after I practiced once or twice. As someone who is always looking to save time, I LOVE that you can simply take the breast milk from the freezer, thaw and warm it, then snap it right into the bottle!
This kit was a game changer for me, in that we FINALLY found a bottle that my daughter will drink! If you are busy a mom who is pumping and working, I would definitely recommend you try this! The Breastfeeding Essentials Kit was just enough to get me started, and you can find it at Target for $29.99. Since trying out the kit, I’ve already gotten a refill for pouches, and you can pick those up for$16.99/40 pouches, also from Target as well.
