My Journey to Living More Simply {September’s Goal!}

I’m sure some of you have heard about simple living, but for the ones that haven’t here is the definition:

Simple living encompasses a number of different voluntary practices to simplify one’s lifestyle. These may include reducing one’s possessions, generally referred to as Minimalism, or increasing self-sufficiency, for example. – Wikipedia

As far as I can remember, I have always had a fascination with people who live in tiny houses and who live off the land. I have always been so intrigued by my grandmothers generation. My Nanny (grandma) will make her dinner from scratch, knit a new sweater for someone, fix a hole in her pants, and hang her laundry out to dry all within an hour. (That’s just a slight exaggeration! 😉 But this is how she was raised, what she knows, and what she is used to. She inspires me so much. I want to be one of those people who are happy with just what they have and are never wanting more. We live in a time where so much is based on material objects, and it’s quite sad. No one seems to care anymore about their relationships with people, just things. If you lost all of that stuff, what would you be left with?

I started decluttering my house in the spring. I couldn’t believe how much we owned that we never used. Slowly my husband has come around and has also started going though his things and donating what he doesn’t need or use. It has now become quite addicting.

I have decided if it doesn’t serve a purpose in my life, then I don’t need it. If it’s something that makes me happy, then it stays. And I can use that in all walks of my life, from clothes and objects to friends. I’m only keeping the things in my life that I know make me smile.

My goal for this month is to go through all our winter clothes and to get rid of anything we do not use or need. Wish me luck! I’ll let you know how it goes!
