It’s May in Milford, and that means the return of the highly anticipated Milford Farmers’ Market is approaching Thursday, May 11. Located in the heart of downtown Milford on East Liberty Street between South Main and Union streets, the farmers’ market brings locals and visitors together for an enjoyable afternoon of fresh food, live music, youth activities and more from 3-8 p.m. each Thursday through Oct. 19.

“Local farmers unloading freshly picked produce, the scent of sweet strawberries, and the sound of crispy kettle corn popping with great local music in the background, all set the scene for a lively small town gathering,” said Kelley Kirchner, marketing and events coordinator for the Milford Farmers’ Market. “You’ll feel right at home every week at the farmers’ market.”

Shoppers looking to get their fix of Michigan-grown, organic, locally-sourced or handcrafted offerings will not be disappointed with this year’s showing. Returning vendors that fans know and love will include: Christine’s Goats Milk Soaps; Diana’s Heirloom Produce; Great Harvest Bakery; Hollow Tree Honey; Huff Farm; Irene’s Beans; Peru’s Most Delicious; S and S Kettle Corn; Warner Orchard; Garden Fort, Two Hound Farm, The Cheese People and more.

New to this year’s market is Golgi Farm, a Commerce-based group that prides itself on growing organic goods in everyone’s neighborhood.

“The community loves to attend our farmers’ market because it’s a social gathering that provides access to both friendly conversation and local goods. It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy an evening in beautiful downtown Milford,” Kirchner added.

Every year, special events and programming add to the market’s appeal throughout the season, including:

·         The Opening Day celebration will feature unique activities and crafts organized by Skull Island Camp, a White Lake-based children’s camp.

·         The 4th Annual Dog Fashion Show Sept. 7, a must-attend for pet lovers, where doggie divas strut the red carpet in costume.

  • Musical performances from 5-7:30 p.m. every Thursday during the course of the market season with fan favorites like Half Whacked on July 13 and Sept. 14 and The Delivery Boys Aug. 3.

“The market is a perfect time to visit and experience our charming and lively downtown Milford,” said Ann Barnette, executive director of Milford’s Downtown Development Authority. “After the market, locals and out-of-town guests can enjoy a meal at one of our many restaurants, grab an ice cream cone or enjoy the sunset in Central Park as crowds gather to enjoy live music at the LaFontaine Family Amphitheater. It’s the perfect way to end a long week.”
